Ar Drone

The Parrot AR Drone Quadricopter is an awesome device that uses modeling, gaming and augmented reality all in one cool toy. It is remote-controlled by an iPhone, iPod touch or an iPad and has a number of sensors, like a front camera, vertical camera, as well as an ultrasound altimeter. You can also use it in video games like AR FlyingAce. The AR.Drone can also be used in video games, such as AR.FlyingAce, a dogfight between two AR.Drones. You can use it both indoors and outdoors and even fly and battle with other Drone users in the Wi-Fi network.

Outdoors flight: It’s not the Parrot Drone most effective suit. For starters, it won’t fly over fifteen feet (because of the range of the ultrasonic sensor I guess). Furthermore, the position hold actually only is effective when there is absolutely no breeze. Should the wind picks up, the AR Drone starts to tilt and shakes, plus the optical flow camera will lose its lock. Often this means it really drifts, maybe it is going to scoot off in a random course after having a wind strong gust.

Though when there is no wind, it is possible to fly as far as the wireless connection allows you to. We have successfully tested up to a hundred feet.

The Parrot AR.Drone
Parrot Ar is the first quadricopter that can be controlled by an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

High-technology Sensors Offer Simple Piloting
A mix of captors, wide-angle camera, high-speed camera and MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems), accelerometer, gyro sensors, and ultrasound sensor combine with a powerful on-board computer to make piloting the AR.Drone easy. Simply use your iPhone or iPod touch, and just tilt and touch to control the AR.Drone.

Connect and See
The Parrot AR.Drone generates its own Wi-Fi network to which you connect your iPod touch or iPhone to control. The front camera view is streamed to your piloting device display.

Autopilot
The AR.Drone autopilot allows easy takeoff and landing. After takeoff, autopilot stabilizes the AR.Drone at an 80-centimeter altitude. When you remove your finger from the iPhone/iPod touch, the autopilot function automatically puts the AR.Drone into stationary flight. Lost connection with the AR.Drone? Autopilot takes over again and stabilizes the device before attempting a soft and safe landing.

Indoor and Outdoor Hulls Included
The full hull shield protects the AR.Drone from impacts that occur during wild battles against enemies hidden in the rooms of the house. The streamlined colored hull is aerodynamic, allowing greater control outside.

Parrot Ar

drone quadricopter Ar DroneIf you are looking for the newest technology in Wi-Fi helicopter model flying make sure you check out the Augmented Reality (AR) Drone by Parrot. The Parrot Ar Drone comes with a manual on board to demonstrate how easy it is to control this 4 rotor helicopter. The manufacturer Parrot, has bridged the gap between virtual and physical worlds, making use of wireless peripherals for smart mobile phones which in turn make use of iPhone and iPad touch-screen technologies. This amazing quadricopter creates its own Wi-Fi network which connects to an iPhone or iPad. Interestingly this quadricopter has two cameras on board allowing you to virtually sit in the pilot seat. One camera is located beneath the quadricopter and is used to calculate the drone speed and also allows for hovering capability. The AR Drone combines military programing with gaming programs allowing for Smart Piloting (PSP) to adjust for wind and other environmental changes. The second camera is situated up front and views the drone’s surround and sends this information back to the iPhone or iPad touch-screen. You see exactly what the drone sees providing for a birds eye view just as if you were sitting inside the quadricopter yourself. This is what AR gaming is all about!

The Parrot AR Drone comes with a brushed or brushless engine that provides a maximum speed of 11 miles per hour and easily travels 9 to 10 feet above the ground. The brushless engines provide more power than the brushed versions and therefore cost more. However, buyers tend to favor the brushless models. The Parrot AR Drone is a true light weight at around ¾ of a pound with dimensions of approximately 20×20 inches.

The AR Drone can be flown inside or outside. Needless to say, there are many more obstacles inside and hence greater the possiblity of damaging your drone. Not to worry. Parrot has thought of everything. They have made this drone out of carbon fiber tubes and PA66 plastic which means they are rough and tough and can handle just about anything you dish out. In the event of a collision, all 4 rotors lock on impact protecting rotors and engine. For those of you who have flown the old RC planes, remember what happens when your plane is out of range? They kept going out of range and probably got lost for all of time. Guess what? Parrot thought of that and has an auto-pilot on board. So if your drone gets out of range the auto-pilot kicks in and safely lands. If for any reason you let go of the iPhone or iPad screen, the drone also goes into auto-pilot and hovers in position. Sweet!

Parrot Ar Drone

drone quadricopter video Ar DroneThe AR Drone Quadricopter steps it up even more by incorporating augmented reality (AR) games. What this means is that a battle-like scene appears on your touch screen where you can interact with an artificial intelligence challenger or perhaps a friend of yours who also has a Parrot Drone. At this time Parrot has 3 programs for the video games Robot, Drone War and Duel. You be able to develop strong hand/eye coordination while dogfighting, projecting missiles and escaping assaults while developing mental strategies to defeat your opponent whether artificial or human. Interestingly, the camera in front constantly monitors for other AR Drones with a magnetic top beacon. Your drone can detect the enemy! You can also place three dimensional tags in the environment and your drone can see them as enemies allowing for you to create virtually limitless game playing strategies.

Learning to fly the Parrot AR Drone is easy with the aid of an accelerometer in your iPhone or iPad. For example, leaning the iPhone forward moves the drone forward. Leaning backwards causes the drone to backup. And tilting sideways allows the drone to corner. The touch screen also has command keys that are easy to operate that allow the drone to climb, rotate and go downwards. Have no doubt that young individuals will be fascinated with this drone but so will the older generation particularly if they are young at heart.

way cool by E. shoykhet “elect dude”
Ar Drone is pricey but it’s worth it. Many people don’t understand the kind of technology that went into this product and don’t know what it costs.

flying it is a lot of fun. I would recommend flying it inside the house as the toy is pretty fragile. Also, buy a second battery. The charge time is about 90 minutes and flight time is from 10 to 15 minutes. I hope they design a larger battery to increase the flight time. the drone has a lot of lift power so a battery that was twice the capacity should not be a big deal to carry around.

Also, Amazon sells squaretrade warranty for around 60 bucks for 3 years and that covers accidental breakage so i think it’s worth the money as you are going to break a thing or two on this toy.

Quadricopter

ar drone by parrot Ar DroneThe Ar Drone games can be played not only by a child but by the teenagers and the adults as well. Playing with the AR Drone can be your favorite pass time. Operating the Drone is more exciting than a conventional helicopter because along with the previous functions it is now available with much additional functionality. The introduction of this latest technological device by Parrot has really brought in a great craze and has consequently succeeded to achieve large numbers of fans of this device.

The AR Drone games have been built up with two motion sensors. These sensors are located under the central hull of the device. Apart from that, there are other features in the Drone equipment like miniaturized inertial measurement unit which is based on MEMS as well as a 6 DOF. The inertial measurements of the device are actually used for controlling automatic pitch, stabilizing the roll and the yaw and assisting the control of the tilts. The 6 DOF on the other hand provides with this pitch, roll and the yaw measures. These different parts and units of the device are required to get a realistic effect of a real helicopter.

The AR Drone hints at a kind of future gaming. This mini-battle helicopter can give you greater facilities than just a toy. You won’t believe but it is surprisingly true that you would enjoy the feature of real gaming. It is available with two games. In addition to this, there will also be a single player simple shooter that allows you to blast enemy craft overlaid on the display of the video. With a combination of all these facilities together you would really have a great time playing with it.
